350cc Methanol Drag Motor:

Do you need extreme performance from your Banshee? Is drag racing important to you? Are you restricted by class rules or on a limited budget? The Patriot Racing 350cc Methanol Drag Motor is our best performing for dollar spent motor. Initial independent dyno testing has shown our 350cc motor with the following components to produce 90HP and 50 ft/lbs of torque with CPI In-frame pipes and 95HP and 50 ft/lbs of torque with the custom pipes as shown!!!
Pipes:
Patriot Racing has had tremendous success with using CPI pipes. We prefer to use the CPI pipes were in-frame (tuck-in) pipes are required.
Carbs:
We use Packard Enterprises prepped Lectron carburetors. We make a few more slight tweaks to extract the ultimate in methanol carbs. We use 36/38mm carbs with 14" long K&N filters and Outerwears. An option to that would be bored Keihin 35mm PWK Air Striker carbs set-up for methanol. We've also tested our engines with 34mm TM Mikuni Flatslide carbs set-up with powerjets for methanol. Each carburetor has its own merits. Let us use our experience to help guide you in your carb selection.
Reed cages:
Our dyno testing has shown that the V-force reed cage builds the best HP and best torque. We have tried the single reed set-up and found it last somewhat longer, but there are big HP and torque losses. We feel that in a drag motor, the V-forces have proven they are the choice. The larger carbs do require different intake manifolds and boots. Patriot Racing is currently working in developing our billet intakes- check back for those often- otherwise we use V-Force compatible Pro-Design intakes.
Crankshaft:
The heart of any good engine is it crankshaft. Patriot Racing can not stress enough that a good solid crankshaft ensures many hours of trouble-free use. The stock crankshaft will work well once it is trued and welded.
Cylinder head:
We use our custom cut domes in an aftermarket billet head. Our combustion pocket profile and the accompanying squish band ensures the maximum power is extracted from the combustion process. The compression ratio is tailored to suit your style of drag racing- whether that be short dirt drags or long hillshooting.
Ignition timing:
The stock timing must be altered for the now substantially increased RPM the motor will sustain. The stock ignition has be tested and shown to work exceptionally well. We will provide you with a baseline to work from for where to set the ignition at.
Additional Items:
For drag racing we highly recommend the use of an over-ride cut transmission. This allows you to shift under full power maintaining maximum acceleration. We also recommend the use of our heavy duty clutch kit with a billet clutch basket.
Cylinder porting alterations:
Patriot Racing's effort in developing our 350cc Methanol Drag motor has been rewarded with its extreme power output levels. To obtain these levels the cylinder porting alterations absolutely must be done precisely. This level of output creates additional compounded problems with the deficient transfer ports. Introduce an exotic fuel such as methanol- the problems seem nearly insurmountable. The key to the power output levels of our drag motor lie in the hours of transfer port alterations to gain area, the correct flow patterns, and the durations to suit the peak RPM target. The stock intake port size works well up to 34mm carbs- but in our recommendation of 38mm carbs and with the richer fuel-air ratio, the intake port size must be increased- the intake is also reshaped for correct flow patterns. Our evaluation and subsequent hours of testing have shown what exhaust duration and shape works best with this set-up. All the port sizes are increased throughout the cylinders for the increased fuel-air ratio. We pay special attention to the duration, shape, and aim of the ports to ensure the maximum power is extracted- the in-depth work we do- is what makes our motors stand out.
