417cc Stroker Methanol Drag Engine:

Do you need extreme performance from your Banshee?  Is drag racing important to you?  Do you need a potent engine that is reliable and consistent?  Our 417cc Stroker Methanol Drag engine is a must for you.  This engine combination is a very potent and a very exciting ride.  With the proper chassis set-up sub 4 second 100yd drag times are very feasible.

Pipes:

Short of designing custom drag pipes- which we can do- we only use CPI out of frame drag pipes.  In either silenced or open configuration.  The open configuration has a slight edge in power.

Carbs:

We use Packard Enterprises prepped Lectron carburetors.  We make a few more slight tweaks to extract the ultimate in methanol carbs.  We use 36/38mm carbs with 14" long K&N filters and Outerwears.  An option to that would be bored Keihin PWK carbs set-up with powerjets for methanol.

Reed cages:

We recommend V-force reed cages.  Proven to be performers.

Crankshaft:

The heart of any good engine is it crankshaft.  Patriot Racing can not stress enough that a good solid crankshaft ensures many hours of trouble-free use.  We only use a  billet stroker crankshaft with a plus 7 stroke and 115mm "long" rods.  We use Blaster pistons for this set-up.  The cases must be relieved and notched to clear the increased stroke.

Cylinder head:

We use our custom cut domes in an aftermarket billet head.  Our combustion pocket profile and the accompanying squish band ensures the maximum power is extracted from the combustion process.  The compression ratio is tailored to suit your style of drag racing- whether that be short dirt drags or long hillshooting.

  Ignition timing:

The stock timing must be altered for the now substantially increased RPM the motor will sustain.  We do reccomend the use of a PVL ignition with the timing set depending on your style of drag racing.  We will provide you with a baseline to work from.

Additional Items:

With the extreme increase in power output it becomes crucial to harness this power with the proper clutch and transmission components.  We use the Matton Machine lock-up kit to prevent clutch slippage.  We also highly recommend the use of a over-ride cut transmission.  Further we recommend the use of straight cut primary gears.  At a bare minimum a Mattoon Machine lock-up clutch is required.

Cylinder porting alterations:

With our 417cc stroker engines the differing stroke, rod length, and piston configuration require some special attention to the port timing adjustment.   Introduce an exotic fuel such as methanol- the problems are compounded.

The increase in displacement requires even more attention to the already deficient transfer ports, couple that with the increased fuel-air ratio of using methanol as a fuel: the transfers require substantial rework.  We spend a considerable amount of time creating the maximum transfer area.  We weld up the auxiliary transfer passage to not allow for a greater area, but by welding the area the greater larger, and greatly weakened cylinder webs are reinforced.    The stock intake port  size works well up to 34mm carbs- but in our recommendation of 38mm carbs and with the richer fuel-air ratio, the intake port size must be increased- the intake is also reshaped for correct flow patterns.  Our evaluation and subsequent hours of testing have shown what exhaust duration and shape works best with this set-up.  All the port sizes are increased throughout the cylinders for the increased fuel-air ratio.  We pay special attention to the duration, shape, and aim of the ports to ensure the maximum power is extracted- the in-depth work we do- is what makes our motors stand out.

Note package price does not include incidental parts found faulty during tear-down and inspection.

A stroker motor most often CANNOT be built using previously ported cylinders.  The transfer duration becomes too great and cannot be readily corrected.

We can build any engine combination, the package pricing is to reflect the complete package available.  Provide us with your budget and we can develop an engine package to meet your budget and satisfy your power needs!!!
